Bayer Leverkusen president confirms Alonso will stay with the team
Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Caro has confirmed that Xabi Alonso will remain as coach of the club for the time being, denying any plans to leave him anytime soon.
Alonso was linked with a move away from the German club last summer after leading Leverkusen to the Bundesliga and German Cup double, with reports of interest from big clubs such as Real Madrid. However, the Spanish coach has decided to stay with Leverkusen.
Responding to the speculation, Caro told Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger: "Let's assume he will stay, there are no signs to the contrary. We maintain a strong relationship with Alonso, his family and his agent."
Caro added that there are no ongoing negotiations with other clubs, indicating that the club is focused on developing the team, and that they are optimistic about the Spanish coach's future with Leverkusen.
